The Brightside #BeTheBrewer contest is back. The time of year where Alberta’s newest beer is selected by you!
Brightside and Alberta Beer Festivals are partnering up once again to give you a chance to #BeTheBrewer and experience the basics of what it’s like to build a beer. You choose it, name it, design it, and brew it (with a little help from some of our friends). We’re once again partnering with the Brewmaster Program at Olds College to brew up your creation and we’re enlisting some new faces from Bitter Sisters Brewing and SYC Brewing to lend their expertise in the process.
A new twist: the theme of this year’s #BeTheBrewer brew is optimism. Last year was one for the books, so we’re looking to you, Alberta, to help us build a beer that spreads good vibes only for the year ahead. Keep that optimistic, glass half full spirit with all your voting and submissions. Time to get creative!
Have your say every step of the way for your chance to win amazing prizes. And then, give this winning brew a try throughout spring and summer when it will be available at some of our partner locations and at select liquor stores across Alberta. All beer proceeds from our 2021 #BeTheBrewer creation will support the Olds College Brewmaster Program.

Our 2021 #BetheBrewer Saskatoon Pomegranate Wheat Ale – “Your Wish Is Pomegranted” needs a label! No need to be a professional, design the label any way you know how (sketch it, draw it, fingerpaint it for all we care!) and our team will bring your label to life – don’t hold back! Don’t forget to keep the theme alive with some optimistic, bright and fun flair.

- Announcement of Top 5 names to be voted on – April 2nd, 2021
- Voting for Brightside #BeTheBrewer Contest name of beer, April 5th to April 13th, 2021
- Announcement of Brightside #BeTheBrewer beer name, April 15th, 2021

Open to residents of Canada except the province of Quebec.

File Types & Sizes
- Must contain the winning name
- 1500 x 1500 pixels minimum. Design submissions are only for the front of the beer can.
- Only .png or .jpg file formats will be accepted. We will get the full files later if you are a finalist.
- 5MB file size or smaller. Please only send a flattened file with no layers. If your entry is selected you will be contacted to supply the layered file(s).
- Must be based on this year’s theme: Optimism

Judging Criteria in Selecting Top 5
Appropriate Content
- Content should be appropriate for public use. The content/design should be unique and authentic to the Brightside #BeTheBrewer Contest
- The layout should be legible and communicate the beer name and style clearly
- Content must incorporate the name and beer style determined by the first two steps of the contest. There are three ways to get this information:

No Copyright Infringement
All work must be released for individual usage or purpose usage grants. All entries must contain copyright-free art or art released for entrants and public use. No unauthorized use of copyright images, text, or other material will be accepted.
Legal Stuff
Each of the 5 stages of the Brightside #BeTheBrewer Contest ends at 11:59PM on the day that stage closes. Winners will be contacted via email within 72 hours of the contest closing. By entering the contest, you give permission for ABF and Brightside to add you to their email lists to receive information about the contest and other events. By entering the contest, you give permission for Brightside to contact you with information about what they do and special offers. Event tickets are for event-entry only and do not include the cost of beverages or food. This contest has no cash value and prizes are not exchangeable for monetary value. No purchase necessary. Must be 18 years of age or older by start of contest January 11th, 2020. Winners of label design and name stages of contest will be decided by voting. The other 3 stages will have winners selected at random. For the label design stage of the contest, anyone can enter – no design experience is necessary. Our graphic artists will render the final design if winning entry is not already designed to specifications. By entering the contest, you give permission to post possible names and labels on social media and on our website, and if you are one of the 5 winners, we also have permission to use your first name in all promotional/marketing material.
