With Calgary Oktoberfest set to kick off AB Beer Week on September 23/24 – and Edmonton Oktoberfest ready to celebrate the week’s successes Sept 30/Oct 1 – we thought we’d give you a few tips to help you get the most out of your Oktoberfest experience!
Tip #1: Get Dressed Up – Dressing up Oktoberfest style helps you get into the swing of things! We’ve got you covered on the how to pick an outfit or make your own. And don’t forget, everyone who shows up to the event dressed up gets entered to win a VIP Prize Pack, including hotel accommodation, to the Banff Craft Beer Festival at the end of November! Tip #2: Learn the Songs – Actually, if you learn just one song, you could be set for the night! Ein Prosit is ‘THE’ Oktoberfest drinking song – yes, there are lots of drinking songs in the world, and many associated with Oktoberfest, but Ein Prosit is the one to know. It’s short, and you’ll get better at it the more you drink. Click this link to learn how to sing the song before you get to Oktoberfest! www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdjrVJDVC9Y
Tip #3: Expect to Sample – With over 50 breweries, special casks you can’t get anywhere else on earth being tapped on the stage every hour, delicious eateries from around both cities, and a selection of ‘other’ beverages including our friends in the craft distilling industry, come prepared to sample a wide range of delicious things! Tip #4: Getting There & Away – Both the Stampede in Calgary and Northlands in Edmonton are located on their respective LRT lines. We have also partnered with driving services in both cities to make sure you get home safely. For maps to the venues – click on the links on this page: www.albertabeerfestivals.com/buy-tickets
Tip #5: Get into the experience! The more open you are to sampling different beers, to dressing up, to singing the traditional songs, and embracing all that is fun about Oktoberfest, the better your experience will be!
Tip #6: Get there early! The doors open at 4pm on Friday and 2pm on Saturday. With so much going on – and with so many different beers and eateries to try out – you’ll want to get down to the event early. Make sure you balance your beer sampling with lots of food sampling – and grab a water from information to stay hydrated while also supporting one of our charities!
Tip #7: Support our charities! Visit the Social Media Lounge at Oktoberfest and support our charities. AAFS and Kids Up Front will be running a 50/50 in Calgary, and Kids Up Front and Edmonton’s Food Bank will be doing all kinds of fun things – plus accepting non-perishable food items at the door.
Tip #8: Know how the festival works!
