My old neighbour Jim had this amazing dog Zeeb. Jim, who was retired, would meet up with his friends at a coffee shop in town every Friday morning and leave Zeeb to wander around the strip mall since everyone knew and loved the dog. Jim would bring treats for Zeeb and leave them in a metal bowl outside the coffee shop. Through the window, Jim would see Zeeb grab the treats one at a time and trot off to – Jim assumed – eat them somewhere else. One day, Jim decided to follow Zeeb to see where he was going with the treats. He was surprised to find that his dog was going in to the pet store at the end of the mall. Following Zeeb in, he was surprised to find that his dog wasn’t eating his treats at all – he was bringing them to the dogs who were in cages in the pet store one at a time. Jim learned from the store owner that Zeeb did this every week.
The point of the story is that no matter who you are or what your situation is, there is probably someone you could reach out to that would appreciate it. Now, the way I’m suggesting won’t work for everyone – and we’re not discounting that there are some people out there that need real help right now. What we’re doing is sharing an idea for you to connect with a friend in a really fun way. You and some friends can each pick up a ‘Beerfest In A Box’ from your favorite liquor store (for where to find ‘Beerfest In A Box’ click HERE – and if your local store doesn’t have it – ask them to bring it in).
“Alberta Beer Festivals has always been about bringing people together over food and drink – so despite not being able to do events right now, we still wanted to help build community and support our industry – and that’s where the idea for Beerfest In A Box came from,” says Trevor Bacon – Director of Communications for ABF. Each ‘Beerfest In A Box’ contains 8 incredible craft beers from 8 amazing Alberta breweries. Some of them are old friends, while others might become your new favorite. Each edition of ‘Beerfest In A Box’ will be packed with similar styles – so you know you’ll be able to enjoy each and every beer inside.
In addition to the great beers, each case contains a QR code that, if you hold your phone over it, will link you to a video of the brewers discussing their beers so you can hear directly from the people who made them. It isn’t quite a beer festival, but it’s as close as we can come right now, and a whole lot of fun if shared with a friend. And because you can watch the videos online, you and your friends can pick the best time to hear from the brewers and sample the beers together.
‘Beerfest In A Box’ is available at all participating Sobeys & Safeway liquor stores as well as many other fine establishments. For more information and where to find ‘Beerfest In A Box’ click HERE.
